Pan, god of the wild, leapt into the Nile to flee the monster Typhon — transforming mid-leap into a creature half-goat, half-fish. Zeus immortalised this moment of cunning survival and metamorphosis in the sky: the Sea-Goat, equally at home scaling peaks and navigating the deep.
